FEDNAV – one of the key players in the shipping industry – has been a reliable partner of Anglo-Eastern for many years now. Since 2015 Anglo-Eastern Ukraine has provided Ukrainian officers to serve on board Fednav ships.
On June, 8, 2018, the Fednav representatives – Tom Foubert, Manager, Vessel Operations and Director at Antwerp Operations Department, and Dana Wandschneider, Fednav Limited Montreal –carried out a seminar for AESM Ukrainian officers. Capt. Pradeep Chawla, Managing Director (Group QHSE & Training) and Mr. P.K. Sridhar from Anglo-Eastern Hong Kong were the speakers at the seminar, too. The seminar was hosted by Anglo-Eastern Ukraine Training Center in Odessa.
In his opening address, Capt. Oleg Lukyanchenko, Director of Anglo-Eastern Ukraine, expressed his hope for further enhancement of fruitful cooperation between Fednav and Anglo-Eastern – the two internationally acknowledged leaders of the industry.
Mr. Foubert and Mr. Wandschneider covered a number of the key issues from the perspective of Fednav policies and agenda. So, the Ukrainian senior officers had a great opportunity to get a much better idea about Fednav Company first hand.
The concept of Fednav as an “active owner” was the theme line of the seminar. The speakers looked at the Company’s 2017 performance, 2018 outlook and post-2018 strategy as well as regulatory challenges, fleet strategy and peculiarities and prospects of Fednav’s Cadet Program. The seminar participants also acquired a more thorough understanding of such important issues as current and forecasted market conditions, bunker costs, voyage charter costs and revenue, sub-time charters and others. The Open Forum format along with the case studies gave the seafarers a more complete picture of such situations as lock transit in ice, winter operations, cargo short loaded etc.
Capt. Chawla spoke about navigational incidents – their main reasons, consequences, and measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Mr. P.K. Sridhar looked at PSC-related problems and injury KPIs, as well as injuries and machinery cases.
The Fednav seminar for AESM Ukrainian officers contributed greatly to open and transparent communication between the seafarers, managers and shipowners, to the team-work aimed at higher operating efficiency, and to further regular communication with officers’ Fleet Operator.
The seminar enjoyed a favourable feedback – many participating officers commented on valuable experience of communication with Fednav and Anglo-Eastern Hong Kong representatives and the information they gained during workshop’s interactive and engaging activities.
